Customer review Classic Notebooks: Dell Inspiron 600m Notebook Computer (wireless technology laboratory)

After twelve years of owning desktop computers, I finally opted for a laptop so I would no longer be chained to my desk. This was in febuary 2008. After months of research and weighing various makes and models, I settled on the Dell Inspiron 600m Notebook Computer. This particular model has exceeded all of my expectations and at a price that is hundreds of dollars lower than many competing brands.

For several months I agonized over my next computer purchase. I knew I needed to be more mobile and only a notebook computer would permit me to take my “show on the road.” Still, the decision making process was not easy as the number of different makes and models out there is mind boggling. Ultimately, I settled on a Dell in part because of previous good experience with the company as well as affordability of their product line.

The model I chose was the Inspiron 600m. As with almost everything that Dell builds, it is a “new” model; at least the 600m designation is. That is one of the confusing things about Dell and some other manufacturers: every month Dell introduces new models and you need a scorecard to compare one model with all the others. Fortunately, Dell’s website allows you to do just that.

Key features of the Inspiron 600m include:

Lightweight: Just over five pounds.

Mobile Centrino Technology is standard.

14.1 inch screen

Pentium M 725 Processor

24X CD Burner/DVD Combo Drive

256MB DDR SDRAM 1 Dimm Memory

Wireless Network Card

Extended Battery

Microsoft Windows XP Home Addition

WordPerfect Productivity Pack

I kept my computer fairly basic but I did opt for the latest version of Norton Security, a surge protected cable, a wirless router, and a wireless mouse. I selected the wireless mouse as I thought the keyboard’s mouse would be difficult to use. After two days I quit using the wireless mouse as I quickly got used to the built in one.

The screen is bright and the keyboard is solid. The mouse keys, however are noisy, almost clunky; you wonder if Dell could have used a quieter spring for each key.

The battery lasts at least four hours without recharging and when I do need to recharge I can go from nearly dead to fully charged in less than one hour.

For the price — I paid just over $1100 ( in 2008). for everything including shipping and local taxes — the Dell cannot be beat. I haven’t had to call customer service yet, so I cannot comment on that although in years past your call would be routed to a technician in India. This model comes with a standard one year limited warranty; I avoided a later sales pitch over the phone to get a three year warranty. Their top of the line warranty sends a technician to your house to fix your computer, so it can be option for those of you who do not want to ship — and thereby lose the use of — your computer back to Dell for repairs.

You will find the Inspiron 600m to be adequate for standard business work. Check out their myriad of other and newer models if you do plenty of graphic design or if you need a larger screen. I was happy with the 14.1 screen, but you may prefer their 17″ model. Now I am having a newer laptop. Of course still a DELL!

I,m interested in many topics, one of them is home electronics. I,m fascinated of the possabilities of new technology, and amused that the prices is going down and you get more for your money. I have a site with blogs, news and a shop with the latest home electronics. There is everything from home theater systems to ipods, cameras, computers to accessories. It,s delivered to you door for free or by super saver shipping. The prices is very affordable and only quality and well know products. There is also new Dell Laptops and accessories for the classic 600M

E71 Error Cause and Repair Tips Fast
&
Easy

By Jaison Lanier

One of the most confusing errors in Xbox 360 gaming experience is E71. It is positively not caused by graphics card errors as in E74 error or red ring of death problems. Therefore it is much harder to explain and understand.

While most Xbox 360 problems are caused by either overheating within the motherboard and the case, or graphics card, video scaler chip or hard disc drive problems, E71 error is quite different. And the most frustrating part about it, no one ever finds the actual cause nor the solution to it.

However, most people believe that E71 error is caused by the dashboard and console software updates. Many gamers reporting on this one claimed that they got the error code right after they had updated the dashboard or console software. A most enlightening evidence about this possibility was recorded during the Fall 2006 update; many Xbox 360 gamers experienced the same problem at the relatively same time.

The second potential cause of E71 error is the firmware flash or hack. This action is commonly known as one trick that allows you to play game without having the original game disc in the console. It is usually called playing with a back up disc. However, this may actually cause E71 error.

Of course, there are many other possibilities-which, unfortunately, we havent discovered yet. And more unfortunately, Microsoft hasnt confirmed anything about it either.

Try these steps if you want to try repairing it yourself:

1. Reset your Xbox 360 completely. Enter the dashboard, scroll to the farthest right column. Then press the Initial Setup and follow the later on-screen instructions.

2. Cannot access the screen? Restart your Xbox 360 while pressing and holding down the Y button. It may sometimes restore all settings back to the factory default.

Sadly to say, these two steps are not 100% guaranteed. Some gamers complained that they still experienced the same problem after taking them.

If you are one of them, try to learn more through the Xbox 360 repair guide available online. Or, as the last-but-really-not-recommended resort, send back your console to Microsoft. It is going to cost you $200, and they are going to need more than 8 weeks to fix it.

Setting basic criteria when selecting your college
Part 8

By Ket Ledford

Do you like the traditional way of teaching or love the new technological ways of teaching? Does technology inspire you to study more? While many colleges have been adopting computers in their classroom teaching, not all of them follow this methodology. It is important therefore to understand the teaching methods followed in the classroom of a college.

This is part 8 of the series that explains the basic criteria to be considered when selecting a college. This article discusses the teaching methods adopted in the college and why a student should consider it.

Understanding your needs

It is important first to understand how you like to learn about things. Do you like to read voraciously and obtain knowledge about a particular subject yourself? Or reading does not help and you prefer someone explaining things to you and learning that way? Are you able to visualize what teachers explain easily or visual aids and simulators are better? Would you prefer to read a print copy of a book or a soft copy? Or would you rather buy an audio version and listen to it while working out? These are some of the things that you need to consider to understand your own needs. While all the options may not feasible, understanding your own needs would help you figure out the best college that meets your needs.

Teaching methods

Computers can allow teaching in methods that could not have been thought possible before. Presentations, pictures, simulations, etc. are some of the ways that computers can help learn quicker. Many colleges use a combination of traditional teaching with computers to assist in better learning. While some teachers strictly go by the theory, others believe in practical teaching.

Checking your learning preferences and finding a suitable college with similar teaching methods could help improve your learning abilities.
